Room Accessories, Focal Point and Color Contrast

Interior Design by – Ajithaa Edirimane

The beauty of a room can be enhanced by accessorizing it in different ways. Walls can be adorned with art, antique plates, mats, ornaments, etc., based on the overall mood it is intended to portray. Accessories should be picked carefully keeping in mind that the overall picture should be balanced and the mood not disturbed by excessive accessories or by using those that clash with each other.

The other important element in designing a room is to ensure that the layout is arranged around a “focal point”. This can be a painting, an architectural element, series of windows or anything which attracts the attention of the viewer as he / she enters the room. Some times a focal point is found as part of the architecture of a room and in other instances, it is created by using the furniture and material at hand.

Wall Art is another method of giving a romantic touch to a room, provided it harmonizes with the rest of the decor. In the photograph below, the border along the top edge of a wall, picks the floral pattern from the curtains in the room.

Color Contrast

The photograph below depicts the glamor that can be brought into a room with the artful use of colors that contrast yet harmonize with each other.
